My wife returned to work from maternity leave and within 2 months of her
return, her department was closed. She did not work the required hours to
“re-qualify” for EI. It did not matter that she worked the previous 20
years straight, paying into EI the entire time. Total BULLSHIT.
The true horror story of the Employment Insurance Act which was enacted in
April 2013 has yet to unfold. I am connected to an agency that provides
trained advocates to people who want to appeal when E.I. rejects their
claims. Since the new process has been in place since last April, the
waiting time for clients to reach the first level of the appeal process has
increased from about one month, prior to April 2013, to about 8 months. As
a result, legitimate cases are being blown away by a new protocol that
appears to be a deliberate act by the Harper Government to deny Employment
Insurance benefits to legitimate claimants. Remember, these benefits are
contributed to by employers and workers, and no formal contribution of
federal government money is contributed. The Harper Government continues
the journey started by the Federal Liberals to destroy the Employment
Insurance benefit system created to support workers in need.
