Preliminary hearings in the employment tribunal were first introduced in 2013 by The Employment Tribunals Rules of Procedure, with the aim of allowing a tribunal to identify the issues at an early stage and organise the future progress of the case, thus addressing the need to streamline processes and reduce costs.
