President Uhuru Kenyatta Tuesday afternoon encouraged African countries to take up low cost green energy in the continents pursuit of its development goals.
Speaking as he lead a panel discussion at the 51st annual African development bank meeting, in Lusaka Zambia, the President shared kenya’s experience in scaling up investments in green energy which has earned Kenya a spot among the top 10 countries in the world in the green energy sector, according to Bloomberg new energy finance report.
Within two and a half years, the government has increased power generation from 1,700 to 2,300 megawatts. With a demand of 1,685 as at January 2016 meaning the country has for the first time in history a good margin of reserve energy.
With the increased supply of energy, President Kenyatta said his administration has connected virtually every school to the grid.
The meeting that officially opened today is focused on three main pillars; namely energy, climate change, and youth employment.
